On the way to Latvia's Centenary in 2018, Latvian National Centre for Culture launched project „Katram savu tautastērpu" ("Folk Coustume for Everyone"). The purpose of the project is to tell about Latvian folk costume and it's origin and wearing traditions.

Folk costume is an important and unique part of the Latvian cultural heritage. It has developed under certain geographical and economic conditions, by continuously evolving within these different traditions. It is a broad media not only for Latvian culture, history and ethnic diversities, but also tells a lot about the wearer, by identifying his or her social, material and family status, and also cultural interactions with neighbouring nations.
